Accessible only by foot or cable car, Vigilius is conceived as a radical alternative to conventional alpine hospitality. The horizontal timber structure is barely visible from outside, while the interiors absorb the landscape, dissolving the boundary between architecture and nature. Untreated wood, clay and stone define every surface. More than two decades after opening, Vigilius remains a benchmark for architecture truly at one with its surroundings.
