Instilling new life into heritage sites.

JW Marriott Venice, Rose Island
The Langham Venice, Murano

Davines Village, Parma

Elisa's first signature project for the studio was the extensive renovation and transformation of Venice's Sacca Sessola Island into a luxurious JW Marriott resort. This project navigated the complexities of preserving the historic essence of the island's numerous early 20th century structures, underpinned by a meticulous masterplan approach.

Elisa and her team then embarked on the revitalisation of The Langham Venice on the island of Murano. The project subtly combines the restoration of the Renaissance-era Casino Mocenigo and its original 16th-century frescoes with the modernisation of a 20th-century industrial glass factory, embodying a fusion of heritage and modernity.

The same cultural respect informs Elisa's new-build architecture, where local authenticity, landscape strategies and environmental consideration converge to form timeless designs.

With her expertise in heritage conservation, Elisa Vago breathes new life into historic buildings, ensuring their legacy remains relevant in the future. As a Partner and Architectural Studio Director, Elisa leads the studio’s projects from their inception to fruition, championing site-specific solutions with an emphasis on simplicity.

A graduate in Architecture from Polytechnic University of Milan, Elisa's career began alongside Guido Canella and Gae Aulenti. She joined Matteo Thun & Partners in 2012, where she honed her skills in integrating architecture harmoniously into its surroundings and striking a balance between built spaces and their cultural and natural environments.

Elisa’s dedication to sensitive and sustainable design revitalises heritage sites, whilst bringing clarity to new developments; and her meticulous attention to detail and pursuit of precise technical solutions underlines her commitment to an architecture that respects and enriches its context.
