Architecture Becomes Nature.

This project springs from the site’s natural and morphological features, the dunes in the Portuguese hinterland, and has the character of a “botanical garden” that involves every sensorial aspect.

It is a tourist village comprising forty-five two-story villas with a variety of ground plans and dimensions. To lessen the volumetric impact of the complex and to stress the beauty of the place, a “landscape platform” reflects the sinuous lines of the dunes. Set within this remodelled landscape are the diverse volumes of the homes, whose ground floors disappear to become an integral part of the land.

In the Portuguese tradition, the cabanas - both in their proportions and in the distribution of their spaces - are oriented to let in- and outdoor merge and to act as frames for the uncontaminated natural surroundings. Matteo Thun & Partners have developed a software that enables purchasers to configure their villa as desired, choosing its scale, style, and cost. Unbuilt.
