Vertical Village

Zermatt, Switzerland

Architecture, interior design, styling, light design

The vertical nature of the area around Zermatt culminates in the striking image of the Matterhorn as the most archetypal symbol of a universal vision of mountains. Vertical Village, a 9-storey hotel which is 30 metres high, has this kind of vertical ambition, drawing on an out-of-scale design to fit neatly into its setting, breaking down into several small units and reproducing the local morphology of the land, but in an upwards manner. A 5-star plus hotel with 50 exclusive suites which, rotated in ad hoc fashion, will afford optimum views of the Matterhorn, whose magnetic force is inescapable.
